For Patriots fans the last few days have been a handful. The team has been juggling players, re-signing old ones and just when it seemed things can’t gen anymore surprising, they did. Shortly after 8 p.m. there was news that the Patriots managed to get a top player on the list. Fans were excited to hear that Brandon Lloyd is thrilled and ready to play for the Patriots.
Brandon Lloyd signed this Saturday a three year contract with the New England Patriots, a collaboration that everybody is thrilled about. Although we don’t have any official data regarding the value of the contract, a source close to the matter said the contract could be worth about $15.5 million.
Just like the same source told Boston Herald, in the end the thirty year old Lloyd stood by his original promise, that he’d be “reasonable” about negotiations with the New England Patriots. However, the NFL Network reported that the deal is worth just $12 million, an amount that seems reasonable for a player at the beginning of his top game.
At the same since, since Lloyd didn’t make it a secret he’d be thrilled to play for the New England Patriots, negotiations were probably pretty straightforward. Plus, everybody will have something to gain since Josh McDaniels and Brandon Lloyd make a very good team together. Well, at least that’s what Lloyd previous performances at Denver and the Rams showed.
Earlier this year, the 30 year old receiver told Pro Football Talk’s “PFT Live” that he has “been very successful in Josh McDaniels’ offense”. He added: “I really admire Tom Brady, I admire that organization and how they run things over there, so I’d definitely be interested in hearing how I could possibly fit into that equation”. Perhaps keeping under the key his excitement about playing for the New England Patriot could have scored Lloyd a bigger deal.
While Brand Lloyd was the popular name the Patriots added to the list yesterday, the team signed four new deals and re-signed four existing contracts. Jonathan Fanene, Steve Gregory, Anthony Gonzalez and Trevor Scott might be names that don’t say much to Patriots fans. Dan Connoly, Niko Koutouvides, Matthew Slater and Tracy White got to resign their deals.
