The top winners of this year’s edition of BET Awards were Brown and Beyoncé, according to a recent report published by Reuters. The event, which was hosted on Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, was a good opportunity for artists to pay tribute to late singer Whitney Houston, as well as other musicians.
Chris Brown and Beyoncé’s efforts have finally paid off as the two artists received the greatest number of awards at the 2012 BET Awards edition. “Turn Up The Music” is one of the most successful singles that Chris Brown has released in the last year. Thanks to it, the musician earned the title of best male artist, whereas the category for best R&B artist was won by Beyoncé.
Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z was just as good as his wife. He received the award for best group due to his performance with Kanye West on the album “Watch the Throne”. The three friends were the most awarded at the gala. Kanye West took seven nods home, Beyoncé six and her husband, five.
The most emotional moment of the evening was when several artists took to stage to pay tribute to the late singer, Whitney Houston. Mariah Carey, who has had the chance of working on repeated occasions with Houston, spoke about several amusing moments she shared with the “I Will Always Love You” interpreter between the 80s and the 90s. Carey further confessed that she misses her friend a lot and the only thing that gives her comfort is the wonderful music that Mariah Carey left behind.
Monica was chosen to interpret Whitney’s song, “I Love The Lord”. She was followed by Brandy who sang “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”. Houston’s brother and mother also agreed to interpret two representative songs; Gary chose “Where You Are” and his mother, Cissy, earned a standing ovation for her rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. Chaka Khan put an end to the tribute by singing “I’m Every Woman”.
