After its adventure with Nook tablets, the company is now back on the e-book market and has released a new device.
However, this doesn’t mean that they will stop selling tablets, as the company has made a smart change, opting to sell Samsung tablets with a custom Nook interface.
So, after selling the famous Nook GlowLights for about two years, without any updates, now it’s time for a change. The company has released the new Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus, which comes with a bunch of interesting features.
The new e-book is designed exclusively by the bookseller, featuring a white front bezel that can be compared with its predecessor, but with sleeker looking.
Moreover, it has a 300 dots-per-inch E Ink display, meaning that it features twice as many pixels as its predecessor. With these new updates, Barnes & Noble has declared that their new device can be compared side-by-side with the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite’s screen.
Moreover, Barnes & Noble has decided to move to a more responsive capacitive touchscreen, instead of sticking to an infrared-base touchscreen. This kind of touchscreen can also be found on Amazon’s Voyage and Paperwhite. Another attractive feature is that the company has decided to update the built-in light, meaning that the screen lights will feature more uniformity and be brighter at the highest settings.
Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus comes with a back panel made out of aluminum, which is another attractive thing. All the e-readers have accustomed their users with a plastic panel, but Barnes & Noble has stepped into another level. So, the aluminum back gives the device a more premium feel, but it weights slightly more, 6.9 ounces. At the bottom of the e-reader there is an “n” shaped home button that became a touch-sensitive button, compared with the mechanical one that was found on previous models.
After making some changes to the hardware, the company also brought some updates to the software, meaning that it’s Android and iOS apps have been updated and that capacitive touch was also improved. However, probably the only thing that makes Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus better than Kindle Paperwhite is the waterproof and dust-proof. This feature will transform the e-reader into a more durable device and owners can use it in bathtub or at the pool.
