Based on a recent report published by the Inquisitr, Kellogg’s recalled almost three million boxes of Mini-Wheats due to possible metal fragments that might have infested the cereals. The company explained that one of their manufacturing parts broke down and the metal fragments might have ended up in the boxes.
Kellogg’s released a statement on Wednesday warning people that some of their Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size and Unfrosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size boxes might contain metal fragments from a dysfunctional manufacturing machine. The company reassured their clients that the three million boxes that were infested will be withdrawn from the market in the following days. Thus, customers can rest assure that the products they buy from Kellogg’s will have the best quality.
Several representatives of the company have talked to Dr. David Acheson, an internal medicine physician and former Chief Medical Officer at the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) in order to make sure that their products are safe. Acheson took a close look at the problem and stated that there are very few chances for the metal fragments to get mixed with the cereals. Moreover, customers need not be afraid of possible injuries as the metal fragments are not considered noxious.
The United States Food and Drug Administration has, nevertheless, concluded that it is best for the company to recall all the boxes that were produced in the last weeks. Kellogg’s told reporters that the recalled boxes contain the letters “KB”, “AP” or “FK” before or after the “Best Before” date.
This is not the first time when the breakfast food giant recalls some of their products. As a matter of fact, Kellogg’s was forced to make another recall less than two years ago after customers complained about the quality of some of their products. Fruit Loops, Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, and Honey Smacks were taken off the market for a brief period of time because consumers claimed they had a strange odor and taste , whereas some people experienced nausea and diarrhea.
The recall will lead to a substantial gap in the company’s revenues. Experts estimate that Kellogg’s has already lost $100 million in 2012 to correct problems with their supply chains and the latest recall will add $30 million to the list.
Access Hollywood offered a sneak peak of the MAD Magazine spoofed “Twilight” cover that will be released on October 23. The humorous cover features the caricaturized images of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson along with their daughter, Renesmee, whereas the content of the magazine spoofs all the five “Twilight Saga” installments.
MAD Magazine Editor in Chief John Ficarra talked to Access Hollywood about the most recent cover they have used for their November issue. Ficarra joked that he wanted to do a photo shoot with the three stars of the upcoming “Twilight” movie, but they were not available. As a result the creative team was forced to produce spoofed images of the Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and their daughter Renesmee. The werewolf was the only one who managed to make it to the photo session, the editor in chief added.
Continuing the joke, Ficarra stated that the team was forced to resort to various tactics in order to create the cover. They even forced MAD Mag’s Alfred E. Neuman to pose as Kristen and Robert’s vampire girl, Renesmee. Ficarra added that they would have loved to hire Robert Pattinson for the photo session, but their budget was too small to afford an eyebrow wrangler. According to the editor, the two actors cancelled the work at the last minute because they realized it conflicted with their Brooding Lesson.
The issue will be out on October 23, whereas the “Breaking Dawn” protagonists and the rest of the cast will be busy promoting the upcoming installment of the “Twilight Saga”. “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” is set to hit theaters on November 16, 2012. The worldwide premiere of the much-awaited movie is scheduled to take part on November 12, 2012 at the Nokia Theater at LA LIVE.
Reuters reports that this year’s Nobel Prize in Medicine was won by the British and Japanese researchers John Gurdon and Shinya Yamanaka. The two scientists discovered a method to transform adult cells into stem cells that can be used for the creation of any type of tissue.
79-year-old John Gurdon from the Gurdon Institute in Cambridge, Britain and 50-year-old Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University in Japan are responsible for the biggest stem cell breakthrough of the century. After many tests, the two researchers discovered that new tissue can be produced without harvesting embryonic cells. Their finding brought them the Nobel Prize in Medicine and the $1.2 million award which they have equally divided among them.
Nobel Assembly at Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute justified their decision by saying that Gurdon and Yamanaka’s discoveries have completely changed the way the development and specialization of cells was viewed up to the present. The fact that the production of stem cells no longer requires embryos has determined scientists to hope that stem cells can be used in the near future to replace damaged tissue. There is a wide range of affections that can be treated with the help of stem cells, such as, spinal cord injuries and Parkinson’s disease.
The level of stem cell is the first stage that the tissue goes through before it becomes an adult cell. For years, it was believed that the process cannot be reversed and mature cells cannot be transformed into stem cells once more. Thanks to the discoveries made by Gurdon and Yamanaka, induced pluripotency stem cells”, or iPS cells can be used to rejuvenate ordinary skin or blood cells and thus, repair organs if the procedure is not rejected by the immune system.
Scientists’ major preoccupation at present is to prevent the procedure from developing into bigger complications, such as, the uncontrolled growth of cells which could lead to tumors. For this matter, the replacement of cells needs to be performed on the same individual who donated the adult cells.
Lisa Lampanelli, the plump “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant and stand-up comedian, has lost 80 pounds after surgical intervention. Lisa admitted she needed specialized help to deal with her excessive appetite, so she went under knife to decrease the size of her stomach, according to a recent CNN report.
Lisa Lampanelli is now in an amazing body shape thanks to the recent surgical intervention she has been through. The reality TV star used to weigh 248 pounds; the intervention enabled her to lose 80 pounds, so far, but the actress plans to get even slimmer in the following months.
Liza told the media that she has been through various diets since she was a child, but nothing could prevent her from adding weight. After 32 years, the comedian acknowledged that fact that exercises and diets won’t prevent her from gaining weight, so she went through a drastic change.
Lampanelli decided to try one of the surgical interventions that are very common among celebrities at present, namely bariatric surgery. The procedure presupposes the reduction of the stomach size by implanting a special medical device or by cutting off part of the stomach. Lisa did not say what type of technique doctors used for her, but she was very satisfied with the results she obtained so far.
The former “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant confessed that she no longer has to eat big amounts of food in order to feel full. By the time she gets to the third or fourth bite, Lampanelli feels she has had enough food, so she leaves the rest of it for later. In spite of the surgical intervention, the 51-year-old comedian continues to behave normally. She told Dr. Oz that she orders food just like the rest of the people in the restaurant, just that she rarely gets to finish it.
Liza Lampanelli is very satisfied with the choice she has made. She concluded the interview by telling the audience that her life is even better now than it used to be before the intervention.
A rare form of meningitis outbreak threatens U.S. citizens after 26 people got sick and four of them deceased on Wednesday. It is believed that the illness might have been caused by a steroid treatment which has been administered to patients with back pains, says the Associated Press.
Doctors are making efforts to identify the source of a rare meningitis form which is now threatening the health of U.S. citizens. 26 cases have been identified so far, the majority of them in Tennessee where a Nashville clinic administered most of the steroid treatments. The meningitis outbreak has already made victims as four people were declared dead on Wednesday and doctors expect the death toll to increase in the following days.
Health officials have linked the virus to a series of steroid injections that have been administered to patients in the past month. The treatment was produced by a pharmacy in Massachusetts; the company issued a recall last week and later on shut down operations.
There is good news, however: this type of meningitis is not as contagious as the more common forms tend to be. According to the recent researches, the rare form of meningitis might have been caused by a fungus that is often found in leaf mold and which might have been added to the structure of the steroid.
In addition to Tennessee, there have been cases of meningitis traced in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Florida. The victims who passed away were from Tennessee, Maryland and Virginia. Tennessee Department of Health Commissioner, John Dreyzehner, doubts that health officials will be able to put an end to the outbreak in a very short period of time. In his opinion, doctors should expect to see many more cases of meningitis in their hospitals.
Meningitis is defined as the disease which causes the inflammation of the lining of the brain and the spinal cord. Patients can experience severe headaches, dizziness, nausea and fever. Very few cases have also reported slurred speech, as well as difficulties in walking and urinating.
TMZ announced on Tuesday that Khloè Kardashian and Mario Lopez will be the new hosts of the current “X Factor” season. Simon Cowell selected the Kardashian sister and the Latin sex symbol because they have the spunky personality the British producer needed for his show.
Simon Cowell was impressed by Khloè Kardashian’s powerful personality ever since the two met during selections for the new “X Factor” season. After several discussions, the British producer and the sexy brunette agreed to sign a new deal for the current season of the talent show. Cowell chose Mario Lopez as a co-host for Khloè because he thinks the two have a great sense of humor and they can enliven the spirit of the show.
Based on the declaration of an unnamed source, an official statement will be published later this week to provide more pieces of information in relation to the changes that will be enacted. This is not the first modification that was performed on the show’s format. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have also been selected to replace the former judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.
The media was expecting Simon Cowell to choose Khloè Kardashian due to information provided by an anonymous source. The insider told the press that the British producer got along very well with the 28-year-old reality TV star and he decided to bring her on the show. The rumor was confirmed by Simon, himself, during a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres. He told the comedienne that he was looking for two co-hosts with a powerful chemistry and Khloè might just be one of them.
Cowell declared back then that many celebrities have been screen tested for the position. He was looking for a less experienced person to host the show and Khloè with her genuine personality seemed to be the right choice. In his opinion, less experienced hosts can make the show look more dynamic through the natural jokes they make and their lively spirit. Fox made no comment in relation to the news so far.
Designers and fashion consumers alike seem to have fallen so deeply in love with the trends of this year’s warm season that they have decided to keep them for several more months. Apart from some minor changes, the fall/winter 2012 runway hairstyles are very similar to the ones we have seen in the previous collections.
Loose textures and waves continue to remain the favorite hairstyles of this winter, judging by the number of designers who have chosen a relaxed look for their models. This trend is perfect for women with curly or wavy hair as they no longer have to use a curling iron to style their locks. A texturizer or a shine serum is enough to create a casual glam effect and enhance your natural curls.
At the opposite end, are the everlasting ponytails, which have made a strong comeback this year. Given their functionality, ponytails represent the best choice for cold days. Designers have inspired us with numerous ideas, so you can gather your hair in a low, centered, high or even swished to the side ponytail, depending on your preferences. Sleek and side-parted ponytails were a constant presence on the runways, but you can also add a little bit of volume on the crown for a more 60s inspired look.
Braids have been every girl’s ally this summer and it seems like the trend will continue for at least a season. Hair gurus invent new braided coifs each day, so there is a wide range of looks you may recreate for a casual, day style. Whether you opt for a half-up half-down braided hairstyle, a side braid or a messy braided bun this trend is very practical because it helps you keep your hair in place and look chic at the same time.
Last, but not least, designers recommend the updos for the fall/winter 2012 season. These hairstyles represent a quick fix during the “bad hair” days and they can work miracles on your overall look. The look is also very versatile as you can wear a messy bun, a ballerina bun, a braided bun, etc. The best advantage, however, is that you only need 2 minutes to shape your hair into any updo you like, so it’s a perfect choice for busy women.
Like it or not, we must take leave of summer and prepare ourselves for the cold rainy days that are about to set in with the arrival of the fall/winter season. Refreshing your wardrobe with the latest fashion elements suggested by designers may or may not prevent you from freezing in the blizzard, but it will definitely do away with winter blues.
Minimalism and simplicity used to be designers’ favorite terms for the previous winter seasons as a result of the increasing number of financially conscious customers. This year’s collections, on the other hand, represent a return to the obvious display of luxury which is why baroque elements are traceable in the main winter items. Embroidery, tapestry and needlepoint are the elements you may use to recreate the baroque trend. Those who feel audacious may take the style to the next level by wearing heavy fabrics like velvet, leather and silk brocades; you may even follow in the footsteps of Scarlett O’Hara and wear your drapes as a dress. Whatever you do make sure you accessorize your outfit with gold embellishments.
If you prefer something less extravagant, you can enrich your wardrobe with garments related to the school-inspired fashion. Clichés must be left aside as designers warn their new collections have nothing to do with the sexy school girl image that was often portrayed in the media. There are two main categories that may be traced in this trend: the preppy innocent look vs. the rebellious one. The former presupposes the use of high collar shirts or blouses with knee-length skirts or peg trousers and Oxford shoes. For the rebellious look you will have to wear varsity jackets, skinny jeans and lots of accessories.
The third fashion trend that will be more prominent this winter is the gothic revival for those who love dark clothes. Since this style presupposes the absence of color, the fabrics that you select must make your outfits stand out through their rich texture, such as, brocade, velvet, embroidery and fur. Black sheer materials may also be adopted to create powerful effect, especially when topped over bold hues. Red, royal purple and midnight blue are the alternatives you can use instead of an all-black outfit. The key to obtaining a true gothic look is to wear your hair with loose waves and adopt vividly colored lipstick, preferably in the shade of red, cranberry or plum.
