Gwyneth Paltrow Called Her Grandmother The C-word

Have you seen Gwyneth Paltrow lately? Well, “Chelsea Lately” has seen her. A few days ago, the blonde Oscar-winning actress was invited to Chelsea Handler’s TV show to promote her cooking book. Yes, Gwyneth can cook. She got that from her dad. The cooking or the self confidence – we’re not sure.

The fact is that, while taking about the book and how great it was for her to have that experience of writing about the intimate act of cooking with her children – by the way, in case you didn’t know, kids can crack eggs just fine; Gwyneth’s son, Moses, does it with no problem – both girls started talking about their grandmothers which, by coincidence were both called Mutti. “Mutti” was a nickname derived from the German word “mutter” which means “mother”. “Mutti” would be “mommy”.

Both the grandmothers were of German origin. But despite the familial warm name given, it appears they were pretty nasty. During the show, Chelsea wanted to share her opinion about her grandma: “My Mutti was a real bitch!” Gwyneth immediately replied: “My Mutti was a real c***!” Ouch! That would have hurt our ears if it weren’t censored. Did you ever imagine sweet Gwyneth having a filthy mouth? She then explained: “She hated my guts. She tried to poison my mother against me, but it didn’t work, because I have a great mother. She was just tough! She must have not been very happy, she must have had a lot of pain, because she was mean as hell!” Chelsea appeared to have had a similar experience with her Mutti, which led to the natural conclusion: “I don’t now what it is about that name but they should stop giving it to people!”

Thankfully, Paltrow’s mother is far more different that Mutti. First, because she is not called that. Apple and Moses’s grandmother didn’t want to be called “grandma” either. So, Paltrow explained, she came up with this new nickname, “Woof” that she tried to get to stick. “It’s even her e-mail address” she said. But creative 6 year old Apple wouldn’t take it. She named her Lalo, and Lalo it remained.

Gwyneth’s cooking book is named “My Father’s Daughter” and can now be found in stores. It has earned a well deserved spot 7 in the New York Times bestsellers list, right above Eva Longoria’s cookbook. They both have the same price, 30 $, so what made the difference? Oh, but this will be the subject of another article.

Vitamin D may prevent blindness

Vitamin D may help prevent blindness, according to a recent study realized in the United States. The researchers found that those who take supplements with vitamin D reduced the chances  to lose their sight with the age, by 60% .

The study shows that vitamin D has anti-inflammatory properties that can prevent the problems that occur with age. But researchers warn the patients should seek medical advice before taking supplements with vitamin D.
The study was conducted on a sample of 1,300 U.S. women, aged between 50 and 79 years. It was found that women who had high levels of consumption of vitamin D were less likely to lose vision.
Vitamin D can be obtained through a balanced diet, but also by exposure to sunlight.

Vitamin D is one of the most important for the body. Numerous studies have shown that it has many benefits:it keeps bones in a healthy form, is very important for the heart and reduces the risk of some cancers, including the breast cancer.
Half of the women doesn`t absorb naturally the quantity required of vitamin D. Experts say women need to absorb between 800 and 1,000 units per day.
You can “get” this vitamin through supplements or by eating foods rich in vitamin D.

100 grams of salmon consumed daily can offer 360 international units of vitamin D. This amount represents about half the quantity needed daily.

Cow’s milk and soy milk

Cow’s milk is an important source of vitamin D. A glass of 250 ml of milk can provide 98 international units of vitamin D. If you are a fan of soy products you can use the soy milk, very tasty and healthy.

Tuna in oil

85 grams of tuna in oil provides 25% of the daily need for vitamin D. If you’re at work you can quickly prepare a sandwich for lunch. In this way you will fill your mouth and you will absorb more vitamins.

Yogurt is recommended for healthy diets and not just maintenance. At 170 grams of yogurt you will absorb 80 international units. Besides vitamin D, yogurt contains potassium, magnesium, vitamin B2 and B12.

Not all grains contain vitamin D, so check the packaging before you buy it. Experts recommend you eat whole grains. They are a rich source of fiber.

Packs of cigarettes in one color in Australia

The Australian Government released a long-debated bill that totally changes the rules on the marketing for cigarettes.

If this project will enter into force, Australia will become the country with the toughest anti-tobacco rules. Project forbids companies to sell cigarettes in packets used so far, with brand logos and various colors. Various brand names will be engraved in small letters and uniforms on the package and all packages would have the same design and same color, probably olive green, tinged considered  as “abhorrent to consumers”.

Australian Health Minister Nicola Roxon said that cigarette packs must send only messages related to disease and death. On the other hand, it is expected that larger producers to sue the government for violations of laws relating to trademarks. “What company would stand idly by when the brands that are worth billions are simply prohibited the market?” said a representative of Brittish American Tobacco. The same representative said he was convinced that no beer companies or networks of fast food will not remain indifferent.

The Australian Government believes that the measure will reduce the attraction that cigarettes exerted especially on youth. Australian cigarette market generated total revenues of 8.3 billion Australian dollars in 2008, an increase of 2.9% from 2004 to 2008.

Diseases in close connection with smoking kills 15,000 Australians each year, smoking was identified by authorities as the most common cause of disease and mortality among those located but can be prevented.

Studies have shown that the logos and package design will reduce the effectiveness of the messages that warn of the dangers they posed to smokers.

Australian Government precautions taken so far have made ??the number of smokers, which reached 30.5% of the total population over 14 years in 1988 to decline in 2007 to 16.6%. It is intended that by 2018, only 10% of the population to be a smoker.

Seul 2011 – Chevrolet Mi-ray Concept

At Seoul Motor Show Chevrolet unveils its Mi-ray Concept , a concept that brings a tribute to the history of sport models.

Most of  GM`s describe the new concept as a small car like the Chevrolet Monza SS opened in 1963 and light and powerful like the Chevrolet Corvair Super Spyder in 1962. No matter who resemble  (Mi-ray means future in Korean),this is just a “nervous”  roadster  dominated by “sharp” lines .

Even if the car is a tribute to sports models Chevrolet, Mi-ray  conceptI could well prefigure as future Chevrolet roadster  considering that more producers are turning their attention to this type of car.

The car is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine, mounted at the rear and is helped by two electric motors  with 20 horsepower, which are arranged in the front. The power for the two motors is provided by lithium-ion batteries that are charged by recovery the energy at braking. Electric motors are used strictly to starting away, but  also when it  running at lower speeds around town.

Jennifer Garner is Miss Marple in a movie by Disney Studios

American actress Jennifer Garner, the heroine of the television series Alias??, will play a younger version of the famous female detective  Miss Marple. After negotiations which lasted several months, Disney has managed to obtain the rights of using the stories of famous character that first appeared in a magazine in 1927.
It’s not very easy for us to imagine how Jennifer Garner will enter into the character of  this old girl. This will require a ton of makeup although it seems that The Mouse House deals in an innovative character, trying to assign it with a younger generation.

Jane Marple is one of the most famous characters created by Agatha Christie, is a very good gaffer and knowledgeable of the dark side of human nature.
The character first appeared on big screen in 1961, in “Murder, She Said”performed by Margaret Rutherford, who was 70 at the time and it repeated that role in three films. Angela Lansbury played the role in “The Mirror Crack’d” in 1980, a film based on an Agatha Christie novel and she  dedicated this role to actress Margaret Rutherford.
Agatha Mary Clarissa, Lady Mallowan, well known as Agatha Christie was a British novels writer who created short stories and  plays. She also wrote romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott, less known, having the same success. Her works, mainly those that are the main characters Hercule Poirot or Miss Jane Marple made Agatha Christie to be called “Queen of Crime”, it is considered as one of the most important and innovative writers of the genre.

Agatha Christie wrote 12 novels in which the main character is Miss Marple. Most of Agatha Christie’s books  focuses on discovering the author of a crime who belong to middle and upper classes.

American  producers hope the modern approach and choice for the role of actress Jennifer Garner will be the next Miss Marple films with a franchise to rival series “Sherlock Holmes”produced by Warner Bros. studios.

Jennifer Garner, became famous thanks to the role of the television series “Alias??” and we will be seen  her this year on the big screen in  comedy “Arthur”, produced by Warner Bros. studios.

Bomb threat at Eiffel Tower

Almost 4000 tourists were evacuated on Wednesday in Paris, after a bomb threat at Eiffel Tower. French police officers decided to evacuate the tower, after they found a suspicious package inside construction. Officials for French police said they received an anonymous call and they were informed by the existence of the mysterious package.

The one who called also said that the monument will be blown up shortly after their phone talk is going to end. A police patrol went immediately there to check the place. After the package was analyzed by specialists they found no explosive substances, but they continued to investigate the area. The Eiffel tower was reopened for visitors a few hours later.
It’s not the first time when the monument is under a bomb threat. Similar events already happened several times before. Last year in September, French officials announced the possibility of terror attacks by al-Qaida’s North African affiliate on crowded targets.

That time, the tourists and population near by were evacuated twice due to bomb threats. Each time it was a false alarm, no explosives were found. French police said they haven’t discovered a link between the anonymous call and the package, but they think there is a connection. Currently, France is involved in an international military operation against Moammar Gadhafi’s forces in Libya.

President Nicolas Sarkozy reacted rapidly to support rebels fighting, and French air forces began the attacks in Libya, increasing fears and reasons for France to be the target of attacks from extreme Islamic groups. France’s terror alert has been on high level, the red one, which is the second-highest level on its alert system, since 2005.

Chris Brown lost his temper on ‘Good Morning America’

What was supposed to be an opportunity to talk about his new album, ended badly for the R&B singer. Chris Brown lost his temper in front of cameras and dozens of people, during “Good Morning America” show. On Tuesday morning he was invited there for an interview and he was expecting to be questioned about his new album called F.A.M.E.
When the television host Robin Roberts started to ask him questions about his 2009 felony assault case involving his ex-girlfriend Rihanna he was visibly disturbed.

He tried to avoid the subject, by saying that for him it doesn’t matter what happened two years ago: “It’s not really a big deal to me now, as far as that situation, and I think today’s the album day, that’s what I’m focused on.” he said. But his interviewer continued to stick on that subject. Apparently her insistence made him go crazy. After he performed one of his songs, Chris Brown totally lost his control.

He went into his dressing room and there he started to scream and he ripped off his shirt. Next, he shattered a window, by throwing with a chair in it and then left the studio in a very angry mood, without wearing his t-shirt. Brown was supposed to have a second performance during the show, but it seems that he was too furious to even care about it.

Considering the past events that involved Rihanna, it’s clear that the singer has a serious problem with his anger management. After the 2009 incident he was forced to follow a domestic violence program which lasted a year. In December, he completed this program, but it seems that it wasn’t to helpful.
Shortly after the “Good Morning America” incident Chris Brown updated his Tweeter account:  “I’m so over people bringing this past s**t up!!! Yet we praise Charlie sheen and other celebs for there bulls**t.” The message was deleted a few minutes later.

As a response to the events ABC News made a public statement and said : “As always, we ask questions that are relevant and newsworthy, and that’s what we did in this interview with Mr. Brown.”

First full face transplant in US

Doctors from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston, succeeded first full transplant in US. A team of 30 doctors, anesthesiologists and nurses, led by plastic surgeon Dr. Bohdan Pomahac performed the complete face transplant which was a premiere in the United States.

The surgery lasted more than 15 hours, and it was a success. The patient was a Texas construction worker, named Dallas Wiens, who was totally disfigured in a power line accident in November 2008. The burns were so serious that literally erased his facial features.

Beside his lips, nose, eyebrows and eyelids he also lost his sight. The doctors managed to make a reconstruction and replace his facial skin, muscles of facial animation and also the nerves that power them and provide sensation. But they couldn’t restore his sight and it is not known yet if Wiens will be able to see again in the future.

For now, he is on his way to recovery and he even talked on the phone to his family. “He is doing great. He has been on the cellphone with his family and talking,” said Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, the one who led the transplant team.

His donor was a recently dead person, which name and details remained unknown, respecting his family decision and also the patient confidentiality. “Today’s tremendous news marks a new milestone in Brigham and Women’s legacy in transplant surgery.

The pioneering achievement by the entire transplant team is a gift made possible by the most selfless act one human being can do for another, organ donation.” said hospital president Betsy Nable in a news conference that followed after the transplant. According to the doctors, Wiens new look will not resemble with the donor’s face or with his, it will actually be something between these two.

The donor was chosen by certain criteria like sex, age and blood type.
The patient has a 3 years old daughter and his biggest motivation for the surgery was to feel her kisses and smile to her again. According to his family, Dallas Wiens wants to become an advocate for facial donations after he will be recovered.

Also they were grateful to the donor family: “You will forever remain in our hearts and our prayers and we are grateful for your selflessness.”
This was the third face transplant in the U.S., but the first two were only partial. First face transplant in the world was performed in 2005, in France and it was also a partial.
