Move over Charlie Sheen, because Forbes has Ashton Kutcher listed as the best paid actor on TV. Ashton Kutcher’s year on “Two and a Half Men” topped Charlie Sheen’s earnings this year.
The past year was great for Ashton Kutcher, although he and Demi Moore called it quits. Ashton Kutcher’s year on “Two and a Half Men” got him the Forbes’ highest-paid TV actor in the United States title. But whereas Kutcher topped Charlie Sheen this year, he did it with more than half of what the controversial actor earned in the previous Forbes’ Highest Paid TV actor list.
When Charlie Sheen was still with “Two and a Half Men”, he used to be the best paid actor on TV. But Ashton Kutcher took over for him and in one year he managed to pull in over half of what Charlie Sheen used to make. Ashton Kutcher tops Forbes’ list with earnings worth $24 million from May 2011 to May 2012.
Forbes writes that Ashton Kutcher “took over for Charlie Sheen on ‘Two and a Half Men’ and quickly became one of the highest-paid men on television”. Even if ratings have dropped for the series that became iconic because of Charlie Sheen, “Two and a Half Men” remains “a bona fide hit for CBS”.
A part of Kutcher’s paycheck from “Two and a Half Men” went in Silicon Valley startups investments, that Forbes write they “have become his passion”. Kutcher has invested in Spotify, Skype and Airbnb. And is now working on “Jobs”, where he plays Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
Like Steve Carell after leaving “The Office”, Charlie Sheen is now nowhere to be seen. Until Sheen’s “Anger Management” project gets really successful, the actor is going to have a hard time climbing back in the Forbes’ list.
Hugh Laurie is also a frontrunner in Forbes’ highest paid actor on TV list. According to Forbes’ estimates Hugh Laurie earned $18 million between May 2011 and May 2012. But since we saw the end of “House” this May, if Hugh Laurie doesn’t score another profitable TV gig soon, we might not see him in the next year’s list.
