It looks like “American Idol” is getting more media coverage in-between seasons. The overall fuss about the “American Idol” judges is causing a lot more stir than the show itself. Aretha Franklin is the latest celebrity that wants a judge seat on “American Idol”. Well, at least that’s what an article by Hollywood Reporter reads.
From the looks of it, “American Idol” is going for a total revamp. Rumors about producers looking forward to change the judging panel have long surfaced in the media. Several celebrity names are already in focus thanks to reports about their negotiations with the “American Idol” producers. Adam Lambert, Mariah Carey and Charlie Sheen seem to be the front-runners, but Aretha Franklin wants a piece of that too.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that soul queen Aretha Franklin is eager to join the show. In an email sent to CNN, the 18-time Grammy winner said she’s been a fan of the show ever since Kelly Clarkson was leaving everybody baffled. Aretha Franklin announced she has already pledged herself for a judge seat on “American Idol”, but she’s got one demand: Patti LaBelle must join her.
But the 70-year-old soul queen might not be what “American Idol” producers are in the market for. Along with the reports about Adam Lambert being a favorite for the next season’s judging panel, sources said producers are looking for something new to raise audience points. For that matter, veteran Randy Jackson might get his leaving papers, whether he wants it or not.
For the moment being, “American Idol” is two judges short. Steven Tyler was reported to be considering ending his staying with the show for months now. Last week, Steven Tyler finally confirmed the reports, and announced he won’t be coming back for the next season.
“After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit” Tyler said in a written statement. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back. Idol’ was over-the-top fun and I loved every minute of it” he said.
Jennifer Lopez told Natalie Morales on the “Today” last week it was time for her to move on from “American Idol”. “I have to say that there are so many other things that I do and that I put on a hold for that” confessed J-Lo.
