While most people struggle to recover after the New Year’s Eve party, Aretha Franklin is already making plans for another celebration. The famous singer told the Associated Press that she is engaged to her long-time friend William “Willie” Wilkerson.
The wedding is due to take place this summer, preferably in a sunny location. According to Aretha’s declarations, the most eligible location for her wedding would be Miami Beach, Florida. After the ceremony, the newly wedded couple will welcome all their guests at a reception on their private yacht.
Knowing that most people will be surprised when they will hear the news of her engagement, the 69-year-old Soul singer reassured reporters that she is not pregnant. As a matter of fact, Aretha Franklin is fitter than ever thanks to the diet she kept last year.
This would be her third wedding as Aretha went through two other marriages before. In the 60s she tied the knot with her manager, Ted White, whereas in 1984 she divorced Glynn Turman after a five-year marriage. She has four children from these two relationships.
2010 was a difficult year for Franklin. She went through various health issues back then, but she refused to uncover the nature of the medical treatments. According to some anonymous declarations, the singer was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but this rumor was immediately denied by Ms. Franklin. So was the news that she underwent gastric bypass surgery. In fact, Aretha told reporters that she would never go under the surgeon’s knife in order to lose weight.
Although she refused to make any second commentaries in relation to her health issues, the singer reassured everyone that she is now feeling fabulous. According to her declarations, the surgery prolonged her life with 15 to 20 years.
Franklin and Wilkerson decided to get engaged over the holidays. The singer also stated that she plans to work with a famous designer to prepare her wedding dress. She will probably talk to Vera Wang, Valentino and Donna Karan because these three designers are the most appropriate for her preferences.
