2013 began with a series of rumors related to the launching of a new Apple TV set, but spokespersons have refused to comment the news. Analysts have, thus, taken the liberty to interpret the rumors according to their own preferences. Some have stated that the Cupertino company will continue to focus its attention on smartphones and tablets, whereas others expressed their beliefs that a complete makeover of the digital media player is expected by the end of the year.
The recent “high priority” job posting announced by Apple has given tech lovers additional reasons to believe that this year Apple will do its best to improve its streaming player. The job announcement was made for a software engineer/developer that will work with the rest of the engineers to create new features for the future generation of Apple TV.
The posting further stated that the project delivered by the future software engineer will be a “high priority” one. Reporters at CNET could not help but notice that the status of the Apple TV set has suffered a significant change from a mere “hobby” to a “high priority” project.
Moreover, the future software manager will have to work with “cross functional teams”, so analysts have given various interpretations to this requirement posted by Apple. In their opinion, the condition wouldn’t have been mentioned if it hadn’t had a special significance as managers are usually requested to work with other team representatives. As a result, analysts have reached the conclusion that the new generation of Apple TV may encompass a wide range of features as opposed to the simple set top boxes that have been made available so far.
Although the future direction that Apple TV will take remains unknown for the moment, it is believed that the digital media receiver will be endowed with many more entertainment functions, including gaming. iOS apps could soon be compatible with the streaming player and statistics have shown that customers would appreciate this upgrade.
