It seems like the famous actress and future director is having problems with her new movie “In the Land of Blood and Honey. Based on a recent Reuters report, Angelina Jolie was sued by Croatian journalist and author James J. Braddock for copyright infringement. Braddock claims that Jolie was inspired by an article he wrote in 2007 in the creation of her most recent movie.
The Croatian journalist filed the lawsuit in the federal court of Illinois. Based on his written statements, his novel and Angelina Jolie’s movie “Blood and Honey” are very similar. They both tell the story of a rape victim who agrees to work as a servant in the camp that was occupied by the same soldiers who abused her. After reading the screenplay, Braddock, who is also known as Josip J. Knezevic, told the press that the female characters of the two works are “subject to continuous rape by soldiers and officers in the camp and subsequently [become servants] at camp headquarters”.
The Croatian journalist has requested a jury trial and unspecified damages because his copyrights have been infringed by the 36-year-old actress. GK Films, the production house releasing the movie was also mentioned in the claim.
This is the second obstacle that Angelina Jolie’s first movie encounters. “In the Land of Blood and Honey” was banned from filming in Bosnia because the authorities did not agree with the subject of the movie. Back then, it was said that the motion picture portrays the story of a rape victim who falls in love with her attacker. The script was later on, reviewed by Bosnia’s culture minister who allowed Angelina Jolie to continue filming on the Bosnian territory.
Angelina Jolie did not make any official comments related to the copyright infringement lawsuit; on the contrary, the actress is very busy promoting her first movie on various national televisions. According to the actress’ previous statements, “Blood and Honey” will be released on December 23 – a rather bad choice if you ask us considering that people will most likely want to watch comedies and Christmas-related stories.
