It’s time you cross your fingers for the Golden Globe Nominations 2012 have been announced. Reuters reported on Thursday that “The Artist” is the leader of the nominations list with six overall nods including for best film comedy and musical. Read more to discover the rest of the nominees.
On the second position was “The Descendants” a movie featuring George Clooney who plays the part of a father who struggles to keep his family united despite the hard times they are going through. On the same place was also the civil rights movie “The Help” starring the sexy red-head Emma Stone. Both movies have received five nominations for various categories.
Clooney’s second movie “The Ides of March” was also nominated together with fellow Brad Pitts’ “Moneyball”. Other motion pictures that are likely to win the next year’s golden globe are Martin Scorsese’s 3D movie “Hugo” and Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse”. All these productions compete for an award at the drama category.
Aida Takla-O’Reilly, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association told the press that she is happy to see such versatility among the competing movies. According to her, the public was able to enjoy a much wider range of subjects and themes this year as opposed to the previous years. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is the main organizer of the 2012 Golden Globe and its 90 members will assign the awards to the winners.
Besides the Oscars which are held in February, the Golden Globe Awards represent the most watched programme in America and throughout the globe. However, the organization of the Golden Globe Awards is a lot different from the one of the Oscars. For the first event, there are only two major categories: drama and musical or comedy. Consequently, it becomes very difficult for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to assign the awards given that there is such a wide variety of subjects this year.
The 2012 Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by the British comedian Ricky Gervais who also hosted last year’s awards to the despair of the public. The gala will take place on January 15 and will be broadcasted on NBC.
