It looks like American Idol’s next season will be full of surprises. It’s likely Jennifer Lopez won’t be returning for a third year as judge and according to some sources nor would Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. E! News has a source saying Adam Lambert could return to American Idol, as judge.
Two months ago, Jennifer Lopez was not convinced she’d be back in the judges’ panel for a third year. “I don’t know if I can for a third year. I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down, which was nice the first year” said Jennifer Lopez in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
Then Kevin Reilly, president of Fox Entertainment, announced the next season of American Idol will get “some creative invigoration” as well as some “tweaking”. E! News reports the show will actually undergo some major changes, as sources hint Jennifer Lopez won’t be the only one leaving the show.
But it looks like the show’s producers have already found a replacement. Sources say Adam Lambert is likely to return to American Idol, but not as a contestant. In an exclusive interview with E! News, a source says the producers “have been talking about Adam for over a month”.
“He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start” the insider told E! News. The source also added: “He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on”. Basically, it’s believed Adam Lambert “would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him”.
From the looks of it, producers might be in the market for more than one judge. “Randy is great, but he’s part of the old Idol. They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and for that reason he may well not be part of the new line up” said the source. For that matter, Steven Tyler’s future with American Idol is also uncertain.
