Given how tragic the diva’s death was and the market potential of a reality show based on her drama family, it’s surprising it took rumors so long to leak. A source claims that Cissy Houston has in mind a Whitney Houston family reality show.
Although Whitney Houston’s mom, Cissy, thinks a reality show could keep the family together, after the suffered loss, it’s likely the public coverage is only going to make things a lot worse. But, just as the saying goes, things have to go worse, before they get better.
Lifetime network has confirmed the alleged rumors, announcing that a Whitney Houston family reality show is on its way. The premiere is set to air later this year, with Bobbie Kristina, the singer’s daughter, Cissy, the mom, Pat, sister in law and manager, Rayah, Pat’s daughter, and Gary, diva’s brother, to participate. For the moment, the network has ordered 10 episodes.
Rob Sharenow is the executive vice president of programming with Lifetime Networks. He explained that in “The Houston Family Chronicles”, “the multi-generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love and grow”.
The Whitney Houston family reality show has been named “The Houston Family Chronicles” and as Lifetime explains it covers the family members of the late Whitney Houston in their “greatest challenge, supporting and guiding Bobbi Kristina as she faces the world alone, without the one person she relied on the most, her Mother”.
Pat Houston, the late diva’s manager, said that the reality show isn’t a new project. She added that she had been talking with Simmons Shelley for a few years now regarding a show that will feature her and her family. “The unexpected passing of Whitney certainly affects the direction of the show. However, it is my hope that others will be enlightened as they watch our family heal and move forward” explained Pat.
It’s likely the Whitney Houston family reality show is going to bring about a lot of drama. In the end, Whitney’s death was shocking and so were the reports regarding her drug abuse. A former assistant of hers said: “In many ways I’m surprised she lasted as long as she did. She was on a downhill road for a long time, and her body just gave out. I know she was tired, very tired, from it all”.
